It Is OK To Need Help

A lot of time in society asking for help is looked down upon...but why?
Don't we want to become the best us possible?
Don't we want to be able to reach an end goal?

In life, as often as we would like to go-it-alone, sometimes, it just isn't plausible.

We need help from the day we were born to the day we die.  Sometimes we get overconfident and have some success in education, work, relationships, running, or whatever "it" is on the path we are on.  Overconfidence often leads to ignoring help.  However, at some point, we will realize we once again need the support of others to get us through our journey.

How does this relate to me?  Because I NEED HELP!  I have been ignoring the signs for a long time.  I have danced around the topic, thinking I could make changes alone; however, that is simply not possible.  I need accountability; I need support; I need someone to celebrate victories with and be able to talk out any setbacks that will surely happen.

I am currently sitting at my second heaviest weight in my life.  I am not proud of that, but it is what it is.  Call it life,  Call it bad decisions.  Whatever it is...I, and no one else, am responsible for where I am.

So now what?

After a lot of denial, crying, hating myself, crying some more, not feeling good enough, feeling ashamed (you get the point).  I reached out to some key people/organizations for help.  That help will undoubtedly come in different shapes depending on the source.

1.  MOM  My mom is seriously the best and most amazing mom out there. Sure, we get on each others' nerves sometimes, but at the end of the day she will be there for me good, bad, ugly, or indifferent.

2.  KENZ My kid is pretty awesome too, in case you didn't know.  Not only is she a rock-star in and out of the classroom, she is usually willing to do anything with me in so far as running; she is a great cheerleader for this now tortoise who is trying to take day and life one step at a time.

3.  A SIGNIFICANT OTHER  Having the support of someone who means everything to you is equally as crucial.  And here is where I need to remember eating out and doing things is OK...I just need to have a plan, a backup plan, self-control and support...which I know I have here.

3.  WEIGHT WATCHERS  Years ago, this program and the weekly meetings really helped me to get my life back on track, thus why I rejoined this past Saturday.

Although I can't bring myself to divulge my weight here, I am willing to document what is lost on a weekly (ish) basis along with my triumphs and setbacks.  So, if you are someone who is willing to ask for help, this blog could be of some assistance to you!

Today (Monday 5/21) was day one and I already messed up (well, kind of) and that is ok.
I had the foresight to make a smoothie for breakfast; however, I did not take into account that it would freeze solid in the time I made it when I woke up to the time I left for work. When a smoothie unfreezes the consistency is gross...so luckily I had a yogurt and an apple to munch on!

Overall, the first day was a success.  I stayed within my points limit, and I even got out to the trails for 6ish miles.

This journey may seem more daunting than in the past because not only am I trying to figure out my life with respect to food, I am also trying to figure out running.  I am so far behind the 8-ball, but again, it is ok.
